“Our former intranet was essentially just a platform for sharing news and basic information. The Omnia upgrade transformed the intranet into a central corporate knowledge hub, encompassing tools, processes, collaboration spaces, and internal information. We also overhauled the navigation and information structure, enhanced transparency, and recreated all content”, says Lars Filstrup, Vice President Group IT at Uhrenholt A/S, adding:
“Finding information—whatever you need—has never been easier. With everything accessible through the intranet and Omnia’s powerful search engine, search times have improved a lot."
"Our new Find Colleagues feature also makes it easier and more engaging to connect with colleagues and discover internal expertise. The intranet also simplifies onboarding for new employees!”
Uhrenholt A/S is a Danish global food company supplying mainly dairy products and frozen vegetables to a broad range of retail, wholesale, foodservice and industrial customers in more than 120 countries. Headquartered in Middelfart on the island of Fyn in Denmark, Uhrenholt have offices and representatives in more than 20 countries and employ close to 250 people on a global scale.
Previously, Uhrenholt had a custom-built intranet on Facebook Workplace, which was primarily focused on distributing internal news. As Meta, the parent company of Facebook, was planning to shut down the Workplace platform on August 31, 2025, Uhrenholt decided to build a completely new intranet. The intranet task force at Uhrenholt also saw this as an opportunity to improve and expand the scope and functionality of the intranet. Omnia was selected as their new intranet platform. In Lars’ words:
“We conducted a comprehensive market research, focusing on solutions capable of delivering a global, enterprise-grade intranet. It also had to have smooth integration with Microsoft 365 and SharePoint, as these are our core file sharing, desktop, business and collaboration applications."
"With strong expert recommendations and recognition as ‘Intranet Choice’ by ClearBox Consulting, we concluded that Omnia was the best platform for us."
"Another major advantage was that Omnia is run by a Scandinavian company!”
The implementation project took just over four months, covering needs analysis, pre-study, development, and the launch of the new intranet. The first workshops with Omnia Coaches were held in early April, and by August 28, the intranet was rolled out across the entire organization. Since Uhrenholt’s previous intranet primarily contained outdated news, they decided to rebuild it from scratch, creating a new structure along with new and updated content.
“We had a sharp deadline. The new intranet had to be ready for launch before our previous platform was shut down. Although the intranet had to be built from the ground up, the process ran smoothly and the deadline was met with ease. This was largely thanks to the expert guidance of Omnia’s Coaches and the platform’s extensive out-of-the-box features”, Lars underlines.
Due to the tight deadline, Uhrenholt deferred some features from their original specifications in the first version of the intranet. The current solution relies solely on Omnia’s pre-built features, with the only adaptation being the graphical layout, tailored to Uhrenholt’s branding. The coming releases will, among other things, include Omnia’s Document Management System.
“Our long-term goal is to make all the information, tools, and resources employees need for their daily work accessible through the intranet. In addition to seamless integration with Microsoft 365, Teams, and other Microsoft products, we’ve included links to other essential tools and applications."
"We’ve also activated Omnia’s Event Module to host activities such as padel and wine tasting sessions, and launched several communities around diverse topics”, Lars explains and continues:
“In the next intranet release, we will implement Omnia’s Document Management System, further improving findability, collaboration, and the overall quality and reliability of information.”
According to Lars employees are using the intranet more frequently and with more enthusiasm today. The reasons for this are simple—because the intranet now acts as a gateway to just about everything, it’s much easier to find information, tools, collaboration, and knowledge, as well as interact with colleagues. Additionally, the Omnia intranet offers excellent mobile user experience, which has significantly increased usage. Lars also highlights the new intranet’s visual appeal:
“Employees now find the intranet more attractive and relevant, leading to greater engagement with more posts, likes, shares, and comments. I’m confident that engagement will grow even more once the new Document Management System is fully deployed”, Lars points out.
Uhrenholt’s Omnia instance runs on a dedicated Azure Private Cloud. This means that all computing resources—servers, storage, and networking—are isolated and not shared with other organizations. A private cloud has many advantages. It gives the tenant full control over infrastructure, configurations, and security policies, allowing for tailored environments that meet specific needs. Using dedicated infrastructure, it also ensures consistent and reliable performance while avoiding the ‘noisy neighbor effect’ that can occur in multitenant environments.
“‘Hosting the intranet in a private cloud has made life in the IT department much easier,’ emphasizes Lars. ‘It improves security and performance, while making the intranet simpler to configure, manage, and integrate with other systems.’”
The Challenge
Uhrenholt A/S needed a new intranet platform before the old one ceased to function, while also expanding its scope and capabilities.
The Solution
Together with Omnia’s coaches, Uhrenholt implemented the Omnia platform and rebuilt the intranet from scratch, introducing a new structure and enhanced functionality. The project was completed on time, in just over four months.
The Result
The new solution has transformed Uhrenholt’s intranet from a news center into a corporate knowledge hub. It provides access to all information, tools, processes, communications, collaboration spaces, and other resources employees need, boosting findability, efficiency, and engagement.
